Classification of Interannual Surface Layer Salinity Variability

چکیده

Abstract Since surface layer salinity (SLS) mainly reflects sea freshwater flux and affects ocean circulation upper stratification by modifying seawater density, knowledge of SLS variability is important to better understand the global hydrological cycle climate variability. The pattern interannual has not received as much attention compared seasonal in based on Argo profiling float data over 2003–2020 was classified into seven individual clusters. found be regionally different even within each basin primarily corresponded large‐scale mode spatial distribution clusters provides first map that largely cycle.

Seasonal to interannual variability in Antarctic sea-ice surface melt

Satellite remote sensing time-series images are used to illustrate the spatial and temporal variability in Antarctic-wide seaice surface melting during the austral summer. Combinations of collocated data from the Active Microwave Instrument on board the ERS-1/2 spacecraft, RadarSat Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) and SSM/I passive microwave radiometer are used in characterization of the effects ...

Interannual Variability of Equatorial Paci c CO 2 Fluxes Estimated from Temperature and Salinity Data

Based on atmospheric data and models, the tropical CO2 source anomaly reaches up to 2 GtC yr , but the respective contributions of the terrestrial biosphere and the oceans to this ux are di cult to quantify. Here we present a new method for estimating CO2 uxes from oceanic observations based on the surprisingly good predictive skill of temperature and salinity for surface dissolved inorganic ca...

Simulated Sea Surface Salinity variability in the tropical Pacific

[1] Sea Surface Salinity (SSS) variability from a hindcast run of an oceanic general circulation model (OGCM) forced by daily NCEP-NCAR reanalysis from 1990 to 2001 is analyzed. The purpose is to test the capability of the model in terms of the salinity simulation and provide insights for the future SSS observation from space. With daily forcing, the model can reproduce SSS change of the tropic...

The Seasonal and Interannual Variability

The Labrador Sea, as one of a few places of deep water formation, plays an important role in the Meridional Overturning Circulation. While the interior of the Labrador Sea, where the deepest convection takes place, is known to experience variability on time scales ranging from days to decades, little is known about the variability of the other components of the Labrador Sea circulation the boun...
